OUR MUSIC DIRECTOR/ORGANIST, DONNA MURPHY

We are pleased to announce that Donna Murphy has graciously accepted the invitation to be our Interim Music Director/Organist.

Donna, who has been our substitute organist in the month of August, has a rich and varied background as Music Director, organist, pianist, choir director and hand bell choir director, in a variety of churches – Congregational, Lutheran, Episcopal, Unitarian/Universalist, and Roman Catholic.

A graduate of Wagner College with a major in Organ Studies, Donna is a member of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) and the American Guild of Handbell Ringers (AGEHR). She has taught piano and organ for 30 years and directed hand bell choirs for all ages, and her work outside the church has included initiating a music program at the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford working with children with cancer and post-trauma recovery.

Donna is looking forward to working with both the Senior Choir and the Hand Bell Choir upon their return from their August off, and hopes that members of the congregation with interest in either might take this opportunity to join our enthusiastic and fun music fellowship and ministry.

Donna and her husband, Brian, moved to Brewster in June.

MUSIC PROGRAM AT WEST PARISH

The Senior Choir rehearses Thursdays from 7:30-9:00 PM and at 9:00 AM on Sunday mornings before the 10:00 AM worship service. The Senior Choir is open to all who love to sing and wish to commit their time preparing music for the weekly worship service and other special services throughout the year.

The West Parish Ringers is a 5 octave handbell choir who rehearses on Tuesdays from 6:00-7:30 PM. The choir is open to those who wish to make a commitment to monthly ringing and have previous handbell experience. West Parish owns a 5 octave set of Verdin/Malmark Handbells. The handbell choirs of West Parish are a member of the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers and participate in regional and local events.
